Reading fight off late Millwall pressure to seal three points

Updated: Jan 7, 2020

Reading fought off late pressure from fellow strugglers Millwall to claim a 2-1 win over the lions. First half goals from Jordan Obita and Sam Baldock kept Mark Bowen unbeaten as Reading manager, picking up seven points from a possible nine since his appointment.

Reading started the game brightly, creating chances right from the start. They then got what they deserved, with Jordan Obita striking form 25 yards into the bottom right past Bialkowski. Reading then kept piling on the pressure, with a John Swift free kick from the left hand side of the box, hitting the crossbar, being the best chance before Reading scored a second. This one coming from Sam Baldock after some neat work from the right hand side from Ovie Ejaria before he slipped through Baldock, who cut in onto his right foot and struck the ball into the top right corner of the net.

Millwall were lacklustre in the first half, king having a handful of chances. However, they picked up in the second half, striving to comeback and take something from the game, and before long the lions scored through Jed Wallace, after he nutmegged a defender, using his pace to get past another and drilling home into the bottom left corner. Millwall kept going till the very end, but couldn't quite do enough to get anything from the game.

Mark Bowen's side move up to 19th in the table, three points clear of the relegation zone, meanwhile Millwall drop to 17th. Their next game is at home to Charlton, while the Royals take on Luton at the Madjeski.
