Lucas Joao equaliser gets Reading back on track at Millwall

A goal from Lucas Joao proved to be the equaliser as Reading got a 1-1 draw away at Millwall.

Jed Wallace opened the scoring on the stroke of half-time with a wonderful free-kick, putting Millwall one goal up going into the break.

But it was the former league leaders top scorer who gave them the equaliser after Michael Olise clipped the ball over for Joao, before hitting it hard and low to give Reading a point they so desperately needed, after a four-game losing streak.

Millwall were the better team in the first half, but there were little clear-cut chances from either side. However, the second half was a different story. Reading started the better, with some nice build-up play that didn't really lead up to much. The Royals then equalised in the 54th minute and the game was an open affair, either team could win it. Millwall could have taken the lead in the 80th minute after a ball was played in from the right for the oncoming Ryan Leonard, who headed over the bar from just six yards out.

Then in injury time, Millwall again had a ball whipped in to the six yard box, only for this time Jed Wallace to put a tame effort straight at Reading goalkeeper Rafael. Reading almost scored a last-minute winner, when Lucas Joao missed by just a yard in the fifth minute of added time.

This point means that Reading now maintain sixth place in the Championship. Meanwhile for Millwall, they move up two places to tenth, just four points off the play-off places.
