John Swift scores amazing half volley to give Reading Boxing Day win

Updated: Jan 7, 2020

John Swift scored an amazing half volley to give Reading a 1-0 victory over fellow hoops Queens Park Rangers.

Reading took the lead through Swift's goal after a corner was cleared and awkwardly fell to Swift on the edge of the box, who then smashed it into to the top left corner on the half volley to give Reading the lead.

In the first half, both teams had chances, with most of them coming from Reading. But QPR had the better of them, the closest they came was through Grant Hall, who headed wide from a corner near the end of the half.

Reading then came out better at the start of the second half, leading to the goal, and just after that Lucas Joao headed just over the bar following a Chris Gunter cross. Just a few minutes later, Gunter again put a cross in for Lucas Joao, who hit first time and forced Joe Lumley to make a save. However near the end, QPR were trying their very best to equalise, the best chance they had coming from Ilias Chair who struck it off the bar, only for it to fall to Jordan Hugill, who strikes the rebound and Reading goalkeeper Rafael made a wonderful save stopping the equaliser.

Reading now climb to 15th in the table, three points away from QPR who are 14th. Reading Take on Preston next at Deepdale, while QPR play Hull at the Kiyan Prince Foundation Stadium.
