Blackpool force Reading to replay

Updated: Jan 7, 2020

Blackpool get a 2-2 draw at the Madejski Stadium to get a replay against the Royals in the FA Cup.

Blackpool took the lead in the first half against the run of play, Nathan Delfouneso nipping in after Armand Gnaudillet knocked down from a cross.

However, Reading did create a few early chances coming from the right hand side, with Sam Baldock backheeling a low cross from Garath McCleary off the keeper and then against the post being the best of their chances. Blackpool then pushed after the goal, the best chance they had afterwards was a shot from the edge of the box that was deflected just wide.

The game then livened up in the second half, with Reading drawing level just on the hour mark, some good play in the middle from Lucas Boye and Michael Olise before the latter played through Sam Baldock before he hit it first time into the top left hand corner, with Mark Howard getting a hand to it but unable to keep it out.

Blackpool then instantly replied, with Gnaudillet powering through the centre backs, and smashing it near post to put Blackpool back on top. Reading then replied themselves soon after, with Garath McCleary crossing low for Danny Loader who back heeled it into the bottom left corner, as it trickled past Howard.

Blackpool then had a chance instantly to again take the lead, when Gnaudillet was tripped by Teddy Howe in the box. Gnaudillet then stepped up, sending Sam Walker the wrong way but trying a panenka, only for his audacious attempt to come off the bar, before it was cleared after many attempted rebounds.

The rest of the game was very dire, with neither team making any clear cut opportunities. With the game ending in a draw, this means that the game will be replayed at Bloomfield Road. The winner will then play in the fourth round of the FA Cup. The draw for it is on monday at 7 30 PM.
